SIVIPA Moscatel de Setúbal 1996 earns 98 points and is the ‘best Portuguese fortification’ in the Decanter awards

The Moscatel de Setúbal SIVIPA 1996 obtained the second highest score (98 points) in the Decanter World Wine Awards 2017, only surpassed by a Sherry of Spain (99). Wines with scores over 95 points are divided into categories, according to the price, style or caste, from where the Platinium medals emerge in different categories. In the category of Portuguese fortifications the Moscatel de Setúbal SIVIPA 1996 surpassed the peers receiving the distinction of ‘Best Portuguese Fortified’. Also the Moscatel de Setúbal Bacalhôa 2014 stood out in the race receiving 95 points and a Platinium medal in the category of ‘Best Value Portuguese Fortified’. The Moscatel Roxo de Setúbal Superior 2010 of Casa Ermelinda Freitas received the gold medal with 96 points.

 

The Wines of the Peninsula of Setúbal brought in total 44 prizes for Portugal – 2 Platinium, 1 gold, 5 silver, 18 Bronze and 18 Commended. The competition saw more than 17,000 wines from around the world, which were tested by two hundred and nineteen specialist judges, including 65 Masters of Wine and 20 Master Sommeliers.
