Sem Vergonha is the latest wine from Susana Esteban and Dirk Niepoort. The two oenologists gathered at the Adega de Susana, in the Alentejo, to create an extreme Castelão, a wine with a Burgundy profile. The Sem Vergonha 2015 is a challenging, off-the-record wine pairing.
The Portuguese caste Castelão has always surprised Susana Esteban, for her ability to produce structured wines of great complexity, maintaining its delicacy and freshness. These characteristics remind her of the style of Burgundy wines, which led her to challenge Dirk Niepoort, a long-time friend and connoisseur of Burgundian wines, to make a Castelão. The two had no modesty and used an unconventional approach to this Alentejan red, without using a great extraction of the Castelão, resulting in a very balanced wine, soft in tannins, elegant, fresh and structured with a long and delicious finish.
Elaborated in the cellar of Susana Esteban, in Alentejo, the Sem Vergonha red 2015 goes through a 12-month stage in French oak barrels. It is presented in a red color of cherry, of intense aroma to red fruits where the cherry stands out.
Accustomed to receiving and challenging colleagues for projects out of the box, Susana Esteban launched her Sidecar brand in 2014, with Dirk Niepoort as the first guest. Every year Susana challenges a friend to make wine in her cellar in Mora. They will decide how to interpret the fantastic Alentejo vineyards, and to drive the motorcycle!
The Sem Vergonha 2015 red wine has already appeared on the list of recommendations from the famous publication of American Robert Parker – Wine Advocate. In the event, the Portuguese wine taster Mark Squires awarded him 90 points and characterized this wine as very elegant, with good structure and acidity, and with a touch of summer freshness.
