Moscatel de Setúbal, emblematic wine from the Setúbal Peninsula Wine Region and one of the most traditional in Portugal, was voted the best wine in the International Wine Competition La Selezione del Sindaco 2017. Palmela was the Portuguese municipality that received the highest number of medals (6 Great Gold and 14 Gold) according to the results that have just been revealed. In the 16th edition of the contest, wines from the Peninsula of Setúbal won a total of 33 medals: six Great Gold, 24 Gold and three Silver.
The La Selezione del Sindaco competition, promoted by the Associazione Nazionale delle Città del Vino and sponsored by the International Organization of Vine and Wine, is held from 25 to 28 May in Trimonti (Costa d’Amalfi-Salerno, Italy). the only international wine competition that provides for the joint participation of the producer and the municipality of origin of the productions.
In the 16th edition of the La Selezione del Sindaco Competition, among the 1200 wines in the competition, Portugal had 269 references from 44 municipalities and received 97 medals in total. Compared to the previous edition, the Gold Medals quadrupled and the Gold Medals more than doubled, reinforcing once again the notoriety and prestige that Portuguese wines are reaching internationally.
